Immigration to Canada - Provincial Nomination

The provinces of Canada have a particular understanding with central government when it comes to Immigration. In an effort to encourage immigrants to settle in these provinces, the government has given them special authority so that they may select immigrants who actively wish to settle within the boundaries of their province.

Immigrants wishing to settle in a particular province should therefore apply to that province directly - a process under which the individual becomes a 'provincial nominee'. Each province has a different set of requirements that they try to fit immigration applications into.

For more information on how to go about applying, contact the specific province in question. For example, you may have the work skills required by businesses in Alberta, and therefore that province may consider nominating you. Alternatively, you may be one of the teachers New Brunswick is keen to attract. Each province has its own requirements.
